Thank You. I will try working with the information you have given me because my great Aunt, (James daughter) still living, is 93 and she could be wrong on some because her memory is not the best. She thought James mother's name was Jane so that could have been that she was confused with  his sister's name but last time I talked to her a few weeks ago she said she used to write and keep in touch with his sister Rose.

Hi again, stiil looking at the Ackland family I posted previously, in 1891 the John Ackland 24 Single b Wellington is a Private in the Somerset Light Infantry at North Camp, Farnborough, Hampshire
Census Ref RG12/955/122/26, but their is an interesting marriage in Taunton Sept qtr 1888 5c 597 of a John Ackland to a Jane Hayes, the daughter Sarah Jane was born Dec qtr 1888 Chard 5c 392, their is for info a birth June qtr 1864 Honiton 5b 27 of a Mary Jane Hayes?

Does not answer the Rose or Jack problem, but one to clear up possibly, it would be interesting to see just how long John and Mary Jane Ackland state as years of marriage in 1911?

Jack could be a John? It's a common nickname for John! ;D

Looking at that 1901 census, and cross-checking with FreeBMD. I can see possible birth registrations for Jane and John:

December qtr 1888
Chard district     vol 5c, page 392
Ackland, Sarah Jane

March qtr 1899
Taunton district     vol 5c, page 299
Ackland, John

And the James Ackland would fit with what we know about JHJ!

I would say it's a plausible scenario ;D

Thank you for the help. I have ancestry.ca so I will check out the census for those years and see what I can come up with.

Hi again, their is an Army record for John Ackland he was attested 19th May 1886 aged 19 years and 10 months he was in the UK in 1888 and was finally discharged 18th May 1898 which fits with the birth of Sarah Jane and John?

The probable father of Mary Jane Hayes eg Henry was in Buckland St Mary in 1891.

And John/Mary Jane and John moved to Pontypridd, Glamorganshire.
Sarah Jane is "Married" to a William George Pitt and living in Mountain Ash, Glamorganshire.

Hi again, the only problem with this Ackland scenario is the mention of communication with a "Rose"?

Yes I am running into trouble there as well. My aunt told me that Mary had my Great grandfather and 3 other children, 2 girls and a boy. She couldn't remember Mary's married name but said she and Rose wrote to each other over the years. She is 93 though and maybe she is mistaken on the name. I am frustrated by my search because I don't think I know enough accurate information to do a good search. I tried to find Ackland's army records but didn't find them either but I did see a census that included him in it. Thank you.

Hi again, can your Aunt recall as to where in the UK the letters were sent/received?
