Elnor/Ellner
« on: Tuesday 30 September 14 15:29 BST (UK) »
(Other spellings possible and in fact frequent!)

There seem (from evidence from wills etc) to have been at least 3 siblings surname Elnor b for a guess in the middle of the 17th century

Hugh Ellnor m Mary, labourer, died Lenton 1715/16

Thomas Ellner (my 10 gt-grandfather!!) m Isabell Radford (who was baptised in Radford in 1666) in 1684 in Stapleford St Helens. I'm missing baptism details for their older children; their children from 1695 were bapt in Radford but by early 1700s (possibly earlier) the family was settled in Basford, where Thomas died in 1717; he was buried in Radford.

Anne Elnor m, possible marital surname Walker, daughters Mary, Martha, Sarah - no further details.

Can anyone help me push back another generation? Where were these Elnors born who were the parents? Hugh is quite an unusual name but lasted a few generations so I'll bet there was a Hugh further back too.

One of the Gervase Ellnors was a naughty boy!

Thanks for the above, Larkspur. From the marriage of Thomas and Isabell I can place just about all the Elnors. Prior to 1684 I can't!

Obviously the Basford and radford listings are potentially of interest -- but no Thomas/Hugh/Anne sibling groups there  :(

I know Hugh Ellnor lived in Lenton and died in 1717, even though he's not listed on teh PR extracts,  because I've seen a copy of his will!
