Hi this is the family Fred and Alice were my mums grandparents my mums dad was Albert bowman Fred and Alice's son

Hi Grasses
Fred and alice were also my mum's grandparents. My mum was the daughter of their youngest daughter Stella. From my research they had 13 children, 2 died as children. Their names were Frederick, herman, harriet( rosie) , florence, james, alice, ellen ( nellie), timothy, lucy, stella and alfred.   I have quite a bit of info but was looking for more.
I know Alice died around 1964 but can not find a death certificate.  I also know she is buried in the Bullions family grave.  One of her daughters married george bullion.
Any information on the family would be great.
Their youngest daughter emigrated to australia in the late 50's.

Hi Shb1,

I am a granddaughter of Lucy Bowman who was one of the Bowman’s youngest daughters. Both my grandmother and my mother (Joyce Andrews) have always told me that Alice (my great grandmother) died shortly before my birth in June of 1957.

I have a copy of the marriage certificate of Frederick Bowman and Alice Eleanor Williams, dated 17th February 1890. Ages given: Frederick 19 and Alice 18.
I also have a census from 1911 with the names of their children as follows: Herman (16), Harriett (14), Florrie (12), James (9), Alice ( 8 ), Ellen (7), Timothy (4), Lucy (2), Stella (infant). I know they had a younger son (Alf) who was not born at the time of this census.

The names and ages are all correct. The only thing which is not correct is the year of death of Alice which I have often seen mentioned as 1963/1964. My mother’s first cousin is the youngest daughter of Alf (Alice lived with him and his wife Jessie and their three other children from 1939 onwards) and she confirmed to me that Alice died in 1957. So Alice was born July 1871 and passed in the first half of 1957... so she was 85 when she died. Still a grand old age but not in her nineties.

I have a couple of scans of photo’s of her and a photo of her together with Frederick. My mother lost all the other photo’s from the Fred Beauman article and a few other photo’s which were hanging in my grandmother Lucy’s home. Any photo’s you, or anyone else, has for me would be very greatly appreciated!!

If anyone wants to get in touch with me about anything I have stated here and/or to send me information and/or photo’s... please leave a message on this forum and let me know. I have only just this afternoon signed up here and so I have no idea how we can contact eachother.

Greetings, Kay

Hi Kay
So pleased you have got in touch with me as we are actually related. Our mothers were cousins.
That makes sense that she died in 1957, my mum immigrated with her family to Australia that year when my mum was 17.
My mum Stella is 80 this year. She was born a triplet but one didn’t make it. I also have twins. Mum always said that Nellie ( Ellen) you grandmothers older sister had twins too. Are there any multiple births in your family?
I have the 1911 census too and marriage certificate - have spent a lot of time on ancestry.com but think some of the information may be incorrect. I haven’t looked at it lately.
I would love to chat to you more about the family.
I have a copy of Fred’s article with some photo’s and another article that was in the mirror. I would love copies of the photos you have too.
My email is shberry@bigpond.com
if you contact me
Kind regards
Samantha Berry
