Help needed please, place name?

Spittal United Presbyterian Register
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ae5/

2nd entry in that clipping
Adam BELL and Isobell BELL in [?? Meal/Meat & Bield ??] had a child born February 20th and Baptised Febr 27th 1779 Called Elisabeth

As far as I can squint :-) the abode does seem to say Mea[l/t] and Bield or at least that is my best shot at deciphering the letters.

Best I can do for the transcription is to type what I see, but if anyone has time to look I'd be grateful for second opinions and hopefully someone can shed some light on where it was. I've looked at the farms index (which is a lot later than this) and no clues there.

Thanks

Boo

Meol & Biel?  :-\

It might be worth looking through the other baptisms to see if you can find another mention of the place/s ...

So far I have transcribed the first 20 years of this register and there's nothing even vaguely like it. Still got another 67 years to go though, so I live in hope!
:-)

Thanks for taking the time to look

Whereabouts in Northumberland? There is a Beal, on the coast south of Berwick.

In the Enumerator's Instructions for the 1841 Census it is called Meat & Bield,
Enumeration District 21, Berwick on Tweed.
If you can find any of the other places in those instructions it might get you closer to the location  :)

Look at the 1866 map - Meat & Bield is pretty much in the centre  :)

Well done Jen.

I have my moments  ;D

Meat & Bield shows up beautifully on the 1898 and 1924 maps.

It's also on the 1979 map.

It looks like the building is still there today, on the latest map I can see it seems to be called 'The Stables'. I much prefer Meat & Bield  ;D
