Do you have them in a later census where it gives their exact ages and places of birth? Remember that the 1841 census rounded ages and just gave the county of birth.

Lancashire Online Parish Clerks has lots of John Heaps born about the right time - this one in Preston, but without the above information it is impossible to tell if it is the right one.

Jane Battersby married William Gregson in 1866 Preston.
Info i have on John Heaps is that he was born oct 1793 in Nateby Garstang, Lancashire  England, he is the son of William Heaps born abt 1748 in Kirkland Garstang, Lancashire England and Grace Bleassdale born 22 oct 1752 in Kirkland, William died 12 october 1832 at st Helen's cathedral Garstang and Grace died 9 may 1831
