looking for killed WWII soldier Baker Albert, Essex
« on: Saturday 04 October 14 05:48 BST (UK) »
Hello my name is Gil and I'm a local WWII researcher. I live in Mol, Belgium and I’m trying to find as much information as possible of the soldiers who died in my town trying to liberate it. We want to keep history a live by telling the story of these brave men.

One of the men killed in my town and buried is private BAKER, ALBERT SYDNEY. I know he lived in Tilbury, Essex on 60 Kipling Avenue. He was the son of Joseph and Emily Rosaline Baker of Tilbury, Essex. He was born on September 5th 1925 en was killed on 16/09/1944 when serving The Middlesex Regiment.

I hope you can help me and maybe get me in contact with his relatives

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to RootsChat.

Joseph Baker married Emily Roseline Bone in Orsett 1907, so Albert's birth is registered there in 1925. Looking at Freebmd, it seems that he was the 6th of 7 children born to this couple. He had 3 older brothers, 2 older sisters and one younger sister. Hopefully their descendants are around and can be found.

Hello Gil & welcome.
We're not allowed to name people who may still be living but I can tell you Albert was one of 11 children.
His mother was Emily Rosaline Bone.
Found what I believe to be a marriage for the youngest daughter but no children in the area.
My advice would be to contact the editor of the Thurrock Gazette.
Tilbury is in the district of Thurrock.
There may be some relatives still in the area:

Well spotted Jim, those I gave were after 1911 when mother's maidennames were on Freebmd.

There is an online tree that has one of the older daughters - Emily Maud Baker 1907 - 1982, She married a William Alfred Hall 1905 -1973. They had 5 children - 4 girls and a boy. These are shown as private on the tree so could still be alive. Emily and William both died in Thurrock, Essex, so perhaps a letter to the local paper might get some response.

No, the only child mentioned was Emily, so I presume the tree owner is connected to her.

I've advised the above.
Does the tree give any location for any of the family ?

One of Emily and William's unnamed daughters married a Anthony GR Oakley who died in 1975, it looks as if they had children. They seem to be in the Thurrock area. Looking at Freebmd one of these, a son, was born in 1965, Thurrock, so a good chance of him being around.
