Also, My moher tells me that Esther and john james eloped,, because one of them was upper class.. and their relationship wasn't approved, so maybe they didn't marry. its a mystery

That is fitting in with what we cant find ie a marriage in England. If they eloped, being so near the Scottish border, it would be worth looking in Scotland for a marriage.

Not sure about the class story. Both fathers were working class. George Wilson was a seaman then a dock gateman & George Douglas was a dock labourer.
It may be they had "gone off together" as this has been turned into an elopement story.
There's usually some element of truth somewhere in these family stories.
It may be they were different religions or one or the other was betrothed to someone else. As Esther was 20 when they allegedly "married" she could easily have lied about her age as many couples did.
It could also be that John James was already married;

Hi
Had a quick search on Scotland's People for a marriage between 1898 and 1905 - there are four Wilson men marrying Douglas women but none of them have the first names of your two
Hoey, McLuskey - Scotland & Ireland. Eckersley, Rogerson - Lancashire. McGee - Ireland, Lancashire. Barnes - Bolton, Lancs

No, but I'm sure there will be some people who can advise you where to look. I dont think you will find any course that will teach you everything about genealogy, but once you know the basics it does become easier.

Looks like this John James and Mary Ann are together in Hartlepool in 1911, there is a Herbert Peel living with them.
So probably not the John James you are looking for  :(
