Emigrant to US or Canada
« on: Monday 06 October 14 14:56 BST (UK) »
I am new to Rootschat so please excuse any wrongdoings until I learn how to do things properly :) I am looking to find what happened to a woman born Hilda Emily Harris in the 1920's in Wickford, Essex to Stanley and Emma Harris who married in the 1920's in Billericay Register Office. I understand from some nephews and nieces that she used to socialize with American and Canadian soldiers after at the end of the war and as there are no marriage or death records in the UK I am thinking she may have emigrated with one of them to the U.S./Canada. I have no experience in US/Canadian genealogy - any ideas where I could start? Thank you.

This marriage of a Hilda E Harris July Quarter 1950 Registration District Poplar County of Middlesex. Volume 5D Page 750. Spouse Surname GILLMAN.  May or may not be the person you are looking for :)

Thank you ballydw but I already obtained the marriage certificate for this possible marriage. This Hilda E Harris is Hilda Elsie not Hilda Emily and her father was George not Stanley. She as also born 1906 not 1920's. There was also a marriage of Hilda E Harris to a Howson or Lowson in 1972 but this also is not the right person.
