Mcdermott

Hi.I'm looking for information on a James (Peter) McDermott b 1906-07 in Oldham,to a James McDermott & Sarah Riley. Can't find any birth record anywhere but there is death record for 1994.
He was definitely born in Oldham or a surrounding district.If anybody has any information i would be grateful.

1911 indexes have him as MacDermott.

Hi.Thanks Heywood.Would never have thought to miss out a t.I've been struggling for weeks.Can you give your opinion on the 1911 census with him on.His mother was Sarah Riley but she married a James Ford Oldham 1905.The census shows James Ford crossed out and Mcdermott wrote in ?.There was a James Mcdermott born Oldham 1888 but no marriage between them.Strange.Any ideas

This is all a very much tangled web!The first marriage to put forward is a Catherine Tynan and a Peter Mcdermott at Oldham in 1875.The second marriage is of a Catherine Tynan/Mcdermott to a James Ford at Oldham in 1890.Now the birth of a james Mcdermott in Oldham in 1886 is showing with a mother's maiden name of Tynan.

However this may be slightly misleading I think as the only death I can find for a Peter Mcdermott is one showing in Oldham in 1877.It shows with a birth of c 1853.i'm unable to find either Catherine or Peter in 1881,though I'm sure others might!

1875 marriage as WR Jones posted - to Peter McDermott

1877 death as WRJ posted - of Peter McDermott 24 yrs

Catherine McDermott 22 yrs widow lis living with aunt Margaret Giblins and her mother Ellen Tynan.
There is also :
Mark McDermott 5 yrs.

Lancashire BMD has his birth- mother Tinon.

Also an inmate Mark McDermott 15 yrs;

Then it becomes difficult. There are a couple of James Ford born abt 1886. - will check.

are boarders - no relationship shown and Catherine is shown as married.

1893 birth John Ford - mother Tynan

So it looks as though James McDermott was also known as Ford. His birth certificate may not have  a father's name but Catherine may have retained Peter as father.
