Walsh Family of Mudgee
« on: Sunday 12 October 14 04:05 BST (UK) »
Hello
I am trying to trace Thomas Walsh who was born Co. Cork c1845 who arrived with his brother John and mother Judith on the Escort in 1859.  He married Bridget FOLEY in 1869 - he was a farmer at Apple Tree Flat.  They had James E. O. b. 1872 d, 1873; William L. b. 1874; John J. b. 1876; Thomas H. b. 1878; Clement L. b. 1881 and possibly Mary V. A. b. 1887

I cannot find deaths for Thomas or Bridget and cannot find them in NSW electoral rolls. Does anyone
have any information about this family?
Ophir

Grevilles PO directory 1875

Listed under MUDGEE:
James FOBEY (sic ?) farmer, Talbragar Road
John WALSH, poundkeeper, Lawson St
J G WALSH, farmer, Pipeclay
Patrick WALSH, farmer

Listed under APPLE-TREE FLAT
John WELSH, farmer
Patrick WELSH, farmer, Horse flat

Have you checked NSW BDM  and or NSW SRO for WELSH and perhaps WALCH, or other variations?

Cheers,  JM

NSW SL re Electoral Rolls

I have finally located my hardcopy of the Guide, and so from the link I cited, re NSW SRO,  I have re-read that Guide, particularly pages 241-243 (as per the info at that link).    So I confirm that the NSW SRO has the Electoral Roll for the NSW electorate of MUDGEE for 1866-67.   I do not have copies of that roll, so I am unable to confirm if WALSH was a surname listed on that 1866-7 roll, but I can report that the SR (as in State Records) item no. [4/10800] includes under their heading “District” the electoral roll for MUDGEE and under their heading “Date” it reads ‘1866-67’.

Hello JM
I just lost the reply I had written so here goes again.
John Walsh brother of Thomas and on your list, married Mary and died in 1906 - he has a nice headstone in Mudgee General Cemetery. The Boards shipping list stated that there was a married daughter already in the colony, Mary Condon but I haven't tried looking for her yet.  I did start trawling through microfiche electoral rolls when I got no hits on FindMyPast and a number of attempts to subscribe to Ancestry have failed. A for deaths of Thomas and Bridget one possibility in 1914 is in the wrong district but plan to get a transcription agent to check and verify the spouse field, but your suggestion to try variants is a good one and I will do that. Have printed off all you have sent me and will let you know how I get on.
Thanks once again
Ophir

Births at Mudgee with mother as Mary CONDON
Father seems to be consistent as Cornelius, and the following were births registered Mudgee to that couple.

1857 Julia #8894
1860 Joseph #9249
1866 Maurice #11334
1868 Ellen #12687

There is a public submitted tree at Ancestry which has Cornelius CONDON as born Mitchelstown, Co Down, Ireland, with wife as Mary WELSH 1835-1879.  Mary’s parents listed there as James WALSH 1812-1858 and Judith Julia MCDONNELL 1816-1867.   Both Judith and Mary are listed as deaths at Mudgee.  There’s no immigration details showing on that tree, nor any siblings for Mary.  Notice that Mary’s nee name spelling is displayed there as WELSH.  There is another two daughters shown for Mary and Cornelius (Catherine, 1862-1928, Margaret 1864-1885, but I have not yet found their NSW birth registrations).-

NSW ER 1870 MUDGEE
Cornelius CONDON, of Apple Tree Flat, freehold, Apple Tree Flat
Cornelius CONDON, of Cudgegong, residence, Cudgegong
Maurice CONDON of Apple Tree Flat, freehold, Apple Tree Flat
Cornelius CONDON of Apple Tree Flat, freehold, Apple Tree Flat (JM notes yes, several entries)
Edward CONDON, of Lawson’s Creek, leasehold, Lawson’s Creek

Grevilles PO Directory 1875 – Apple Tree Flat
Maurice CONDON, farmer
Cornelius CONDON, farmer, Stony pinch

NSW ER 1878 MUDGEE
Maurice CONDON, of Apple Tree Flat, freehold, Apple Tree Flat
Cornelius CONDON, of Apple Tree Flat, freehold, Apple Tree Flat
Joseph CONDON, of Apple Tree Flat, residence, Apple Tree Flat

There is a large Irish family with surname CONDON (Maurice, Mary, Catherine, Edmond, Cornelius, Margaret, Ellen, Patrick) arriving January 1855 on the Wacousta, and their son/brother Joseph is noted as with  McCarthy, Mudgee on a different resource, but here’s the CONDON family on that voyage:  http://srwww.records.nsw.gov.au/ebook/list.asp?series=NRS5316&item=4_4791&ship=Waconsta
