Lucy Leech and Joseph Sealey
« on: Tuesday 14 October 14 16:11 BST (UK) »
Hi,

My paternal grandfather's parents were Lucy Sealey (nee Leech) and Joseph Sealey. They lived in Dagenham, Essex. I think the house number and road was 116 Ford road. They had 9 children, Florence, Gladys, Hilda, Violet, Joseph, Joan, Dennis, Leonard and Alan. Lucy's dad was James Leech and Joseph's dad was also Joseph Sealey. Lucy and Joseph married in 1912 and I have their marriage certificate :)
I would just like to find out more info on them about Lucy and Joseph's mothers.

Thanks,

Tabitha :)

Do you have a date of birth for either? maybe from death registration)

Have you found either on 1911 census, just before they marry? Unfortunately we are not allowed to do 1911 look ups.
Hopefully if you can see them, then you will get a year and place of birth for them

The first six children seem to have been born in Hackney, too (1912-1928) before a move to Romford district.

Following on from the Hackney link, this looks like Lucy and family in 1901

James Leech 57 shoemaker bn Norwich
Elizabeth 50 bn City of London
John G 24 bus conductor
James 18 boot clicker
George 17 butcher
Lucy 9

all children bn Hackney

Was her Dad John a shoemaker on her marriage cert?

Yes Joseph's middle name was Groves. And yes Lucy and Joseph both lived at Brunswick street !
Joseph Groves Sealey D.O.B was I think 1891 and Lucy's was 1892.

Joseph's WW1 records show no middle name, though they are definitely his as they show the marriage to Lucy Leech on 1.1.12 (Hackney register office).

He was said to be 25 yrs 0 months old when he attested on 9 Dec 1915 - a carman, 5ft 5in, of 45 Durrington Rd, Clapton Park.

Yes Joseph's middle name was Groves.

The marriage of Joseph Sealey (27, farrier) to Elizabeth Ann Groves (24), 7 Apr 1889 at Christ Church Hackney therefore looks promising re possible parents.

I've got to be off now but will check in later & see what you've found.
