Missing Child
« on: Wednesday 15 October 14 08:14 BST (UK) »
Henry Barnard Dye married Louisa Marie Larkin (1871 – 1927) in 1897 (Yarmouth, Norfolk)

in the 1901 census of Great Yarmouth, Husband Henry is away. Household includes: Louisa (Head - aged 27; Henry aged 5; James aged 3; Emma aged 1; Henry Lerkings (Father of Louisa aged 71).

In the 1911 Census of Grimsby, Husband Henry is away again (at sea according to another census document). Household includes: Earia Dye (Head aged 46); Harry Dye aged 15; James Dye aged 13; Emma Dye aged 11; Elearia Dye (eleanor) aged 8; Jeanetta Dye aged 6; John Dye aged 4; Lawia Dye aged 2; Alice Farnham (A married 19 year old).

I don't yet know who Alice was, maybe just a lodger, it didnt state on the census.

Now the census entry was signed by the 15 year old son Harry Dye, he obviously had difficulties with spelling as the names should be: Earia Dye; Jeanetta Dye; Lawria Dye (Louisa Dye; Jeanette Dye; Laura Dye).

Harry listed Elearia Dye (eleanor), but the only birth I find that matches this person of the year given is a Helen Dye. He named himself Harry in the census but the birth index and the 1901 Census suggests he is actually Henry.

But one thing Harry did record in the 1911 Grimsby Census and is obviously deliberate is that his mother Louisa had 8 children, seven still alive, but one had died.

Given all children are a couple of years apart I can only assume this would have been Louisa's first child previous to Henry of 1895, but I cannot find any record of it.

It sounds a mess and I hope I got my queary across correctly, if not please ask and I will do my best to clarify.

Many thanks as always,
Dean.

Maybe one of the children was a twin?  We could check the birth index for the 7 names we have just in case.

Youngest is 2 so there could have been a baby born after that who died.

I also see years married is down as 13 but the oldest child is 15.

yes the marriage was in 1897. Henry's birth precedes this as 1895. which makes me think a child before marriage.

All Children after Eleanor (or Helen) were born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. All children before were from Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Thanks for your speedy response.

3 possibilities

Daisy Hannah Dye died 1904 age 2 - Yarmouth
George Thomas Dye died Ap/May/Jun 1904 age 0 - Yarmouth
Charles Edward Dye died 1907 age 0 - Yarmouth

I only looked 1901-1911 but didnt spot any infant Dye deaths in Grimsby area

But I did skim through quickly.

Lily May looks likely depending on when Harry was born.  Can't actually see his birth?

The next one James is Mar 1898 if he was James George R.

Lilly May would certainly match the dates.

Harry was actually Henry Alfred Bernard Dye, he just called himself Harry on the census.

Are you getting this info from freereg and freebmd, I've searched to no avail. If i'd have found it I wouldn't have had to bother you.
