De Rinzy - Turbett
« on: Thursday 16 October 14 23:30 BST (UK) »
James Harward De Rinzy, originally of Wexford, married Elizabeth Turbett in St MacCartan's Cathedral, Clogher, County Tyrone in 1867. The couple went to India where they had two sons.
I would be most grateful for any information about these people and their families.

Have you sent for their marriage cert?
I'm guessing you have this.
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FY9C-JZD
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FY9N-G3V
If not you can order it from the GRO in Roscommon.

https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx
Don't worry about parts of the form you can't fill in, just be sure to give the Name, Quarter, District, Vol and Page Number.
Get a Research Cert
And include your Email to receive it that way.
It costs €4.

Many thanks for your useful tips, which I will follow up.
I do not have the marriage certificate. My father, who was interested in Turbotts, visited St MacCarten's many years ago, was shown the church records and made notes, but without recording the details. The name in the church register was spelled Turbett.

James Harward De Rinzy died in Fulham Infirmary in October 1903. There are reports of the inquest in several newspapers on 14 October 1903.

He had been a civil engineer in India and more recently a professor of languages living at 2 Ormiston Road, Shepherd's Bush. He died of heart disease accelerated by excessive use of alcohol, morphine, cocaine and other drugs. He'd been admitted to hospital suffering from cannabis poisoning.

See http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/68727291?searchTerm=harward%20de%20rinzy&searchLimits=sortby=dateDesc

There are also many mentions of him in Australian newspapers in the 1880's. He was the Indian government's agent in Australia (just search for the surname on Trove).

The Derenzy or De Renzy family of Clobemon, Co. Wexford are a famous "landed gentry" family. As such they are extensively documented back to the 1500s.
- e.g in the DNB http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Renzy,_Matthew_de_(DNB00)
- They are listed in the books on the landed gentry of Ireland, e.g.
https://books.google.com/books?id=BSkAAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA363&lpg=PA363&dq=de+Renzy+landed+gentry+of+ireland&source=bl&ots=Cz620GZcXs&sig=kmEiGN5rTlICgjjd8yT5ci0yuaM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=8ZsDVZOjDYGwggTDtoGgCA&ved=0CBoQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=de%20Renzy%20landed%20gentry%20of%20ireland&f=false
- There are also files on the family at the Genealogical Office in Dublin, available on microfilm at LDS Family History centers.

Hope this helps
