What an outfit! Date please?
« on: Friday 17 October 14 16:43 BST (UK) »
This chap seems to be wearing some sort of fashionable hunting outfit?

I only have one other photo on this cardstock, and it was dated to early 1870's.

I'm guessing early 1870's. The photographer's son was a well known poet.

Gibson himself was well known as a landscape photographer, but portraits are more unusual, so I'm always pleased when I can acquire one  :)

This type of card stock was replaced by rounded corners in and around 1870 suggesting the image is pre 1870

Many thanks to all.

Do you think the outfit looks German??

That was my immediate reaction when I first saw the photo  :-\

I should think he might have got a few interesting comments if he went traipsing around Hexham dressed like that  ;D

I can't see an English gent wearing this on a shoot.
My first thought was also Prussian, Bavarian, German (Ok that's 3 thoughts) who the English Gentry thought were inferior anyway so he could probably get away with it.
