First posting: My grandad Ernest Jewell
« on: Saturday 18 October 14 21:22 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone...have looked at this site and there seems to be so much help and support from everyone...hoping someone can help my mum who is nearly 88 years find out military info on her dad, my grandad.
Ernest Frederick Percival Jewell born 1901 Plymouth,  passed away 1979 Reading Berkshire.
What she knows is that he joined the 2nd Devonshire Regiment at the start of 1918 and was sent to France but as he was under 18 he had to look after the mules carrying the stores. When he became 18 it was the end of the war. He was then sent to Ireland and was part of the Black and Tans? He then went  to India and was there until 1926 when he came out of the army. Mum was born in December 1926.

Any military info on his time in the army or a route to find it would be most appreciated.

I am happy to help anyone with getting info, taking pics etc in the Plymouth area.

Thank you
Patricia

Wow what a quick response...Thank you nanny Jan for the warm welcome...maternal nan passed away and my grandad remarried.
His second wife has now passed and as my dad was in the Royal Marines we travelled around a lot so we don't have any military papers or death cert of grandad...hope that's not a problem.

Regards Patricia

If you want to apply for a copy of the death certificate you can do so for £9.25 from the GRO

www.gro.gov.uk

and this is the information you will need to request it

Name:Ernest Frederick P Jewell

Birth Date:31 Aug 1901
Date of Registration:Jun 1979
Age at Death:77

Registration district:Reading and Wokingham
Volume:19
Page: 0272
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
