don't have 1st wife yet
I do have a Thomas Moss marrying Ann Shepherd on 31 may 1811(family research.org) in St marylebone,London, probably travelled to Earlescolne to her relatives to have Henry(son) on 11 feb 1812 then back to St Mary,St Marylebone for christening on 7 mar 1812(hoping i have this right).
Now have Henry's death index, died Greenwich last qtr 1890 age 78 vol 1d pg 705.
if anyone can access that then we can find out Thomas's wife Ann's surname
He arrived USA on 17 july 1837(ship..Toronto) and was back in London 1841 census as a journeyman stationer(51 cencus on, he is a stationer).don't have a copy of the london 1841 so i don't know if he was single/married/widower at that time.
I haven't found when or on which ship he returned

great-thanks for that.
I have his death index and marriage certificate, but don't have a birth index for 11 feb 1812 Earlscolne Essex(then can find Ann,Thomas's wife surname ).Will now be able to seek Henry's first wife on english soil(thought maybe he married and widowed in America)and look for return to UK between 1837-1841.

Must have been a bad time to survive, Henry and harriet lost 4 out of 7 children, Wesley herbert Moss Snr( my gt grandfather)was the youngest of the 3 that survived. His story is very interesting.

Wesley snr married the daughter(Laura Cockman) of lady Eleanor russell.Laura's grandfather, Jacob Russell(1789-1849) married twice,Laura and Wesley adopted the illegitamate child of the grandaughter (Eleanor S Russell) from  Jacob's other wife. Laura and Eleanor were both ladies in waiting to Laura's mother. The line from Jacob is unbroken up to John Russell the first Earl of Bedford(1485-1555.The child was also called Wesley Herbert Moss, we have a ring from the birth mother's mother Eliz (nee Day) Russell which has a lock of hair.Wesley jnr is my grandfather .I guess when we fill in all the gaps and maybe do a DNA test, the truth will out

There will not be a birth registration for an 1812 birth in England, as civil registration was introduced with effect from 1 July 1837.  If you have the birthdate from a baptism record that is likely to be the best evidence you will get (though sometimes other records survive such as entries in a family bible, or newspaper announcements).

You won't find his mother's maiden name on his 1890 death registration either, I'm afraid.

What is the source for middle name William?  I'm not seeing it in his records.

See also the two baptisms at St Marylebone (11 May 1814 and 21 Jan 1816) of Joseph Thomas Moss born 14 Jan 1814, son of Thomas (a carrier/labourer) & Ann.  Perhaps a brother for Henry?

There is also Elizabeth Ann Moss born 19 Aug 1811, bapt 2 Aug 1812 St Marylebone to Thomas & Ann.

If the birthdate is right it would seem impossible for this to be the same Thomas & Ann who had Henry in Feb 1812, only 6 months later.

So there may have been more than one couple named Thomas & Ann Moss in the area.
