Family Search
« on: Sunday 19 October 14 05:21 BST (UK) »
When I try to come up on the Family Search website, all I am getting is a text version of the website, not the normal web display.

Even when I log in, I end up with the text version, which is not usable at all.

Is anyone else having this problem, or is it my computer. It is the same one I have been using for several years.

I am using IE 9, if there has been a change at Family Search, which has not been made obvious to me.

Have you inadvertently switched off the style attribute (in the View options)? Going to 'No Style' would produce what you describe I think.

It could be simply that the style sheet in your cache is corrupted. If that is the case then clearing the cache ought to fix it.

Instructions: View or delete temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer 9

Erato, I have used Firefox on OH's laptop, and it works in the normal way.

Alanmack, I have checked that, and it is on default style.

Alexander, I have cleared the cache, and am still getting the text display.

Looks like I might have to include Firefox on the desktop  ::)

Thank you all for your help. It is most annoying.

IIRC with the introduction of HTML5  the css (cascading style sheets) have been changed.
This impacts on users with older web browsers (IE9 and below)
Hence this is what you are seeing currently.

Newer web browsers Firefox/Chrome/Sea Monkey and IE10+ display the web pages correctly.
You will need to update your browser to view the affected pages normally.

Hope this helps.

You could try turning on Compatability View - go to Tools > Compatability View Settings, and add familysearch.org.

Thank you one and all for you interest and help.

I have just downloaded Firefox, and have got onto Family Search with not a problem.

I have also been able to view another website which IE9 was incapable of viewing, and can see it no problem. IE9 is not regarded as no good, and I will be using Firefox.

Again, many thanks for your help.
