I have found numerous web posts re the axe murder of Ned Walshe, whilst the information is useful it does not provide a link to Annie Walshe accomplice Mick Talbot who is believed to be a family member.

Western Daily Press - 18th Nov 1924

At Limerick yesterday, Michael Talbot and Annie Walsh were returned for trial charged with the murder of Edward Walsh, labourer.  The woman is the widow and Talbot is the nephew of the dead man.

My father-in-law and one of his sisters have made reference to this murder and the execution of Michael Talbot but adamantly refused to discuss any detail, unfortunately they have both passed on and I have not been able to make the link between Michael Talbot and my wife's family.
Annie Walsh (nee Barret) was the last woman to be hanged in Ireland at Mountjoy Prison.

If this man is a relative, then you would need to back in your ancestry to try to find a connection.
You could start with certificates for your father in law's family - find maiden names and then look at the family of Michael Talbot.

I have made numerous searches on-line and used a worldwide search using Ancestry but have not found the link yet.

Just some ideas.
Are they the same generation as him or their parents? Do they come from the same place?
If you have checked their siblings and their parents siblings, it may be that they were acquaintances rather than relatives.
I presume your findings are the two families. This may be far fetched but perhaps they were interested / ashamed that he had the same surname.
