"Royal Hospital For Incurables" Wandsworth
« on: Monday 20 October 14 01:40 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if any records exist for here?

I have an ancestor that is there on 1871-1901 census. He is blind, but also shows as having paralysis later in life. That is a long time to be at a hospital, how would it of been funded? Can anyone give more of an insight/details into what he might of been doing there?

Person is Daniel Mansfield born 1837 in South Benfleet

Thanks

It was a charity! ;D

Some info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Hospital_for_Neuro-disability
and here: http://www.rhn.org.uk/about-us/history/

Charles Dickens helped raise funds in the early days, and Florence Nightingale is also connected to the hospital.
