Relatives in 7 Beechfield Street Belfast NI
« on: Monday 20 October 14 17:16 BST (UK) »
Hello everybody,

This is my first post so any and all help will be of great help so thanks in advance  :).

I have very little information regarding this request but hopefully somebody out there will be able to add a few helpful pieces to the puzzle.

My GrandFather his name was Louis Davis he lived at number 7 Beechfield Street so far as I know of in the early part of the 20th century. He had three children living with him Mary, Veronica a.k.a Vera and Louis. This is as much as I know.

I am trying to find out about my GrandMother I don't know her Christian name for sure but suspect it may have been Mary and her maiden name was possibly McCann. Anybody who can help with even a snippit of info i will be very grateful.

Difficult to help with so little detail to start with.

When (or approx. when) was Louis born?
what religion was he?
about when would be have married? before or after 1911?

There's no one called Davis at Beechfield St. (Which is in Pottinger D.E.d., Co. Down part of Belfast) in 1911 census but often people in the city moved about from house to house within the same neighbourhood so here are some possibilities-

Hi aghadowey sadly my mother was never very fourth coming about her family she was like the KGB on steroids. what I have been able to gleam is that my Grandfather's wife was called Mary and she died 9 April 1940

2 of the four listed are possibles plus I found an entry in the 1901 census of Louis Davis this man could possibly my Great Grandfather I am guessing they are one in the same person only he was in Coal Island but at present it is all guess work but then isn't most of it when your starting off  :) . The family were R.C .

Checked the Valuation Revision Books that go up to 1930 but Davis family must have moved to 7 Beechfield Street some time later.

Religion & age will probably narrow down the possiblities to this Louis Davis in 1940 but will keep searching-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Pottinger__part_of_/Lowry_Street/222040

The death notice is helpful and checking GRONI's index there's a match for Mary Davis died 9 Apr.1940 and she's listed as age 52 so born c1888.

There is a Louis Davis who married a Mary McCann on 22 September 1914 in Belfast (RC church), his father was Louis, hers was Edward.

GRONI online has the civil record registered in Belfast under the names Louis Dovis and Mary McCann, choosing the "full" option (£2) will show you the digitised image:
