Is it possible for someone to look up who was living here in 1905?

Thank you very much in advance,

Jo  :)

Electoral Rolls might help, but they are far from being complete records!

Don't forget that, before 1928, few women were included in Electoral Rolls, and then they had to be aged 30!
And, before 1918, only qualified men were included - age 21+, ratepayers or freemen, etc.

What were you hoping to find out?

There's no entry for number 52 in the 1905 PO Street Directory. The only listings on the south side of Earl Road are shops/businesses at 42, 44, and 68.

The 1900-1905 electoral rolls list Joseph Carey at that address. 1906 onwards  is Richard Barden or Burden.

Thanks ShaunJ and KGarrad,

This was the last known address of my 2x Great grandmother, just trying to see who she was possibly living with, any clues at all.

Are you one Facebook?

If you are there are several pages which might interest you.

There are a few more which off the top of my head cannot think of.

The people on there are great at finding pictures of places that no longer exist.  Do give it a try.

It's unlikely that Electoral Registers will be of any use?
You had to earn decent money, or pay £10 rent (I think?) to be included as a voter.

This is from Croydon:
In 1883, when Croydon's electoral Registers start, the parliamentary electorate (i.e. those who voted for MPs) included all male owners and tenants (aged 21 or over) of dwelling houses, and lodgers paying at least £10 per annum who had lived at the same address for 12 months or more.  The local government electorate (i.e. those who voted in the Borough Council elections) included men and women who had occupied rateable property in the borough for one year, paid rates, and lived within seven miles of the borough.

The Trade Directories (like Kelly's and Pigott's) will only include trades people.
