The Learoyds
« on: Thursday 23 October 14 18:30 BST (UK) »
I have traced my Learoyd family back to 1849 using the general register but I've hit a wall?

I obtained the marriage certificate of my 3x great grandfather 'Jeremiah Clayton Learoyd' married to Emma Woodhouse on 10/06/1849 at Calverley moor in Yorkshire. And it says his fathers name was Joseph Learoyd - occupation 'Cordwainer'.

I later found out that my 4x great grandfather Joseph Learoyd of Otley married a Nanny Clapham in Bradford on 22/10/1820.

That's it! Can't find a clue to who his father was?
Can anyone give me an idea where to search. Ancestry just isn't bringing up anything?
Thank you :)

Have you ruled out the Joseph Learoyd baptised at Otley on 12 May 1797, son of William?

Have you already got Jeremiah's baptism on 10 Jun 1825 at Bowling, Bradford, son of Joseph & Nanny?

I must confess I think that he could be the one but how would I be certain?.

I've ruled out a few that just couldn't be due to age difference but how could I make concrete that its him because no census records have him or his son together.

Sorry to be a bug bearer but it seems that parish records are pretty scarce on detail.

I did have the baptism record of Jeremiah but the other thin that confused me is the areas in East Yorkshire. On one record it says joseph Learoyd of otley then, Calverley.

Very disconcerting?
Should I put out a regional question to solve this conundrum do you think?
I notice that some places belong to one parish

There's seems to be 2 siblings, Jonathan b.1802 & Sarah b.1805, parents William & Sarah.
You could find the marriages of all 3 & see if any of the other 2 are witnesses or based on the census info. see if there's a 2nd. marriage for any of them after July 1837 as this will give father's name & occupation.
