Finding a birth record.
« on: Friday 24 October 14 05:27 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor, John Johnson, who was born, according to three different census records, in Ferrybridge, Yorkshire, England in 1836. I can find no record of a birth in this place. i have however found the following christening record;
Name:   John Johnson
Gender:   Male
Christening Date:   24 Jan 1836
Christening Place:   FERRY FRYSTON,YORK,ENGLAND
Father's Name:   John Johnson
Mother's Name:   Elizabeth
I researched Ferrybridge, Yorkshire and found that it was a post town in the townships of Ferry Fryston and Pontefract. Am I right in assuming that this could be the christening record of a John Johnson who all his life said he was born in Ferrybridge.

Pre Sept 1837 a Christening record is all you are likely to find for Ancestors.

Do you have Johns M/C? What does it have for his Fathers name/occp?

I notice a Tree has him marrying 1873 in Lincolnshire.

I have him 1871 with Wife Ann  (born c 1837 West Hackwith, Lancashire)and Children Emma/Harry/Edith/Elizabeth.
But in 1861 he is in Surrey with Wife Ann born c 1839, Near Stockwith, Nottinghamshire (should be West Stockwith from image)
1901 a Boarder
He is a Plumber on those records.
Is this you man?

1881 I have found a stange entry for him!

Trish :)

Ferry Fryston is an Ancient Parish in the county of Yorkshire. Other places in the parish include: Ferrybridge, Wheldale, Water Frystone, and Water Fryston.

There is an 1851 census that is almost unreadable that has been transcribed as best they could. some names and words are illegible. Part though says;
John Johnson
England and Wales Census, 1851
Name:   John Johnson
Age:   14
Gender:   Male
Birthplace:   Ferry Bridge, Yorkshire
Relationship to Head of Household:   Son
Schedule Type:   Household
The father is John Johnson, but the mothers name is illegible, although they have transcribed it as Hannah.

Continuing the thought in my last post, I think the mother's name could be Elizabeth.
I also have found a marriage record on page 28 of the parish record in the Parish Church of St. Mary Lambeth in the county of Surrey (where John and Ann were found living together in the 1861 census). The entry is dated 27th Sept. 1863, the marriage is between John Johnson and Anne Wildbore he a bachelor and she a Spinster and he a Plumber both living at St. Albares (sic) Street. It lists his father as John Johnson (deceased) and her father as James Wildbore (deceased). His father was an Inn Keeper and her's a Joiner.
