Genealogy Icons for Windows *
« on: Thursday 30 October 14 12:27 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone guide me to get hold of some decent icons form my family tree folders. The kind of thing I am looking for is old book, old document, a letter, BMD Cert, Occpation icons. I have tried looking on Google but nothing seems to fit the bill. Surely someone has come up with the idea of putting icons on your saved documents so you know what is in the folder.

The icons in your folders are connected to the file-type! (the bit after the ".")

You would need to rename all your files to have a specific file-type, and then associate that file-type with an icon?

All folders simply use the same icon - a folder! ;D

EDIT!
Just found this for Windows 7:
1. Right-click the folder you want to change the icon of

2. Select "Open Folder Location"... it's just above "properties"

3. Once you are in the "Folder Location", right-click the folder again that you want to change

4. Select "Properties" at the bottom

5. Select "Customize"... the far right tab

6. the "Change Icon" button is at the bottom

[Note: For the changed icon to show up in the "Library" view also, you may need to close and re-open file explorer]

There are various icon creation programs available from free to commercial units - if you are artistic enough. If not there are also various free conversion tools and sites which will convert an image file gif, jpg, tif, png etc to an ico (icon file) which can then be used in displays on Windows.

If you search for "jpg to ico conversion" there are several which come up on Google.
