EVAN of Llantwit V/Fardre

 A Third Cousin of mine was advised by a letter dated 20 Aug 2009 from the Pentyrch & District Local History Society that our mutual 2x great grandmother, Mary EVAN (prior to that we thought her maiden surname was EVANS!) was baptised at Pentyrch on 9 Jan 1820, the first of six children of John & Elizabeth EVAN.


In the same letter, it stated that:-

1) John EVAN married Elizabeth HOPKIN at Pentyrch on 25 Feb 1815 -- in all probability, Mary's parents and the Census records add substance to this.

2)  Mary's father, John EVAN was born in Efail Isaf in Llantwit Fardre & baptised on 24 Aug 1792 & that John had a brother Evan EVAN also born in Efail Isaf & baptised on 21 Sep 1796 at Llantwit Isaf.

Today I used FreeREG to check out EVAN baptisms at Llantwit Fardre between 1788 & 1798 (at that time looking for siblings of John & Evan) & found both the above baptisms -- BUT that on 21 Sep 1796 states it was for John, not Evan, EVAN, son of John & Mary.

I would appreciate if someone would look at the Llantwit Fardre Parish Records & advise what they consider is the first name shown on the 21 Sep 1796 baptism record.

Image is available on findmypast. Baptism on 21 sep 1796 is JOHN son of John Evan and Mary.
On same page there is a baptism for and Evan but he is the son of Edward Evan and Catharine on 22 March 1796.
