Death certificate deciphering help please
« on: Saturday 08 November 14 03:47 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am hoping someone may be able to decipher the wife of Peter Salmond and his prior residence in the second column.  His death appears to have been at 69 Hospital Street Coatbridge.  I have not been able to find a marriage for him to a Janet Cullen Cutter Button or Butter prior to his death in 1936.  He had married a Janet Tod nee Aitken in 1886, came to Australia in 1886 and had children.  Wife and children died in Australia.  Have found him back in Coatbridge Scotland in 1901 listed as widower, so presume he remarried in Scotland between 1901 and his death in 1936.  Can anyone throw light on this for me?  I haven't included the rest of the certificate as I can read it and it states his parents as Peter Salmond and Janet Forsyth which are correct - and also for sizing to attach it here.  He was born 18 Dec 1857.
Thank you

This widow's name does look like Janet Cullen - with the C being the same as the C started Coatbridge

His former address 85 McLean St, Glasgow?

I think Janet Cutten. The small ls are formed with a loop elsewhere in the document.

I agree that he is widower of Janet Cullen.

Former address 65 (not 85) McLean Street but I can't even hazard a guess at town, even with Kay's reading of Glasgow   ::)  ::)  ::)

Street number looks more like the other 6s on the page than the 8s.

Thank you everybody.  As I said I've tried searching those name variations for a marriage, so it has me stumped.  I have googled 65 McLean Street Glasgow and there is such a place so that is something.  Maybe I have to wait another 7 or 17 years for the 1921 and 1931 census to see if I can find them together somewhere in the Coatbridge/Glasgow area.

Numbers may have changed so don't hold out much hope. A highly industrialised area with many slums cleared and a lot of building and rebuilding. I see there is a Maclean Street in Glasgow, but don't know if was the same one as on your certificate. Many of those inner city areas have changed beyond recogition over the years.
