Searching Woodward family Tree
« on: Sunday 09 November 14 12:30 GMT (UK) »
Need help please to research William Woodward who died 23 August 1866,buried in Snowshill Gloucestershire. He is buried with his wife Hannah. I have conflicting data as to where he was born and what Hannah's maiden name was. His son,Richard b.1829 married Mary Holmes in Snowshill and I have found other siblings on 1841 cencus. I am happy with that data.
Not sure what other information one would require ,I dont want to muddy the waters,as this is the problem I am experiencing. Too many conflicting dates and different Hannah's.
If anyone can help me  get to the correct William that would be great. Thanks

I can understand why you are reluctant to post the conflicting data (having looked at census and online trees) - the initial major stumbling block seems to be his birthplace of Sweatley, Oxfordshire.   Can't see that this place existed BUT I note from census that a Richard Woodward also states he was born there ca. 1791 (William being born ca.1785).

Perhaps someone on here familiar with Oxfordshire may know where exactly it was/or what 'Sweatley' is supposed to be.

Hi glenclare

The marriage you posted is for Stinchcombe which is near Dursley. William was buried at Snowshill which is near Broadway.

Kind Regards
giggsy

I thought the marriage may be an option as William's death is also shown under Stinchcombe parish.

Hi All who have replied to my request for help. I am not sure if this is how I reply?
T0 Glencare yes I had seen Pallot's marriage index, but if Hannah died in1870 aged 80 she would only have been 15  or less when she got married ,ok possible but according to Census they didnt have any children until 1821 jane,1823 Elizabeth etc. Quite a large gap.
Another member on ancestry has marriage date as 1820 .
