All copy BMD certs can be obtained online from the GRO - price £9.25 per copy.  Use the reference shown against the birth entry on freebmd - quarter/district/volume/page - when completing the application

Many thanks Carol,  I knew they could be ordered from GRO, but as I have a few queries, I would have liked to make contact with the Registry Office in question, but not sure which one it would be.

Hi Doric

According to genuki the registers are held at Camden

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/pancras.html

but a word of caution, it is highly unlikely that you will get to 'speak' to a member of the registration team. Central London register offices are far too busy these days to answer the phones and all registrations now for recent events have to be made by appointment

http://www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/contacts/council-contacts/community-and-living/contact-register-office-services.en;jsessionid=29831A87B747AF7D23AD8017A3C945DD

What sort of questions need answering?

You can order certificates from the GRO without using the reference, in which case their online ordering system asks you for more informtion.

If what you supply doesn't match, they won't send the cert and you'll get a refund.

If you let us know which person you are searching for there is a possibility that that person may be all ready on the internet. Especially in London. Then if found you need more information then go for the certificate.

Again many thanks,

See Column 1 in this link

http://www.dixons.clara.co.uk/Certificates/births.htm

Twins are denoted by recording the time of birth on the birth certificate. This may be particularly important for matters of inheritance  (either assets or titles)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

As a twin myself, and also the father of twins, and a grandfather of twins(!!) I can assure you that the time of birth is always entered on the birth certificate ;D

As davidft said, it's to do with inheritance - the law insists on a single person being an heir - whether for money, property or titles! ::)
