seeking inform, ation re St Leger family
« on: Monday 10 November 14 15:26 GMT (UK) »
My  Father had St  Leger  as one of  his  Christian  names  and family   gossip  is that my Grandfather William Henry Ford  born  Bangalore India 1870 had  family  dispute   and  changed family  name ???
I have  been unable  to trace him  other  than   the 1901  census  which  shows  him in Enfield married  with  3  children before  my  father was  born   in 1905

There are some attestation papers for him on FindMyPast.

He apparently married at the registry office in Shoreditch so details will not be available to view online.

It looks as though the family may have got into difficulties after 1901, with Armenia and at least some of the children spending time in an institution.  Have you found your father in the 1911 census (we cannot do lookups of that census on here)?

Yes, possibly Stanley had a twin Sydney who was meant to be baptised alongside him but died before that could take place.  It looks likely Stanley died soon afterwards, too.

Birth registrations:

Stanley Ford & Sydney Ford, Dec qtr 1906 Lambeth 1d 336

Death registrations:

Sydney Ford, Dec qtr 1906 Lambeth 199
Stanley Ford, Dec qtr 1906 Lambeth 210

Looks like Armenia had been married before
Marriage September qtr 1892
Platt    William
WILLIAMS    Armenia Charlotte
St. Saviour    1d   91

(Still looking for the St Leger link  ;D )

ADDED  It was not unusual to have a 'surname' for a middle name.  A couple of the other siblings of Henry had possible surnames (Cartner & Spencer)  These middle names could often be the mothers surname
