Do you have him on census anywhere.  Who & when/where did he marry

They might seem like silly questions but they sometimes help us to go backwards  ::)

Thank you for your interest.  My James Gowman was a Mariner.  He didn't show up on any census returns.  I recently found a James Gowman in the Merchant Seaman Records who is the right age for him, who says he was born Plymouth.  My James married in 1830 in Middlesex to Ann.  His death is recorded in 1852 in Poplar, Middlesex.  I am endeavouring to go through an elimination process in my pursuit of finding him.

I can't see anything you have not got already  :'(
1841 and 1851 Ann with the children but no sign of James.  Baptisms confirm he is a Mariner. They are living in Poplar area which is where he dies. Merchant records give pob Plymouth.

Do you know who the wedding witnesses were  :-\

I wonder if he was born elsewhere in Devon but brought up in Plymouth and just assumed he was born there.

Thank you for your continued interest.  The witnesses were William John Sodio and Ann Sodio.  I'll try and check these people out again to see if I have missed something.
