Duffy of Londonderry help
« on: Tuesday 11 November 14 20:20 GMT (UK) »
I found my great grandparents were married at st Eugene's in Londonderry on 12/5/1875. Afterwards I found they had a son James born 4/24/1879 (lived on Harvey street then) and my grandfather born and baptized at st Eugene's on 10/3/1887. (Lived at 12 Rock Road then).

My great grandfather was listed as James Duffey on marriage certificate and great grandmother was Mary mcQuig. On theis sons birth records, they appear as duffy and Quigg.

That is all. I don't see them again in any census. Any ideas as to where to look? Are there school records out there? Where? What schools? Please help me someone

Have you tried searching for the children on their own?

It helps if you give us ALL the details you've found so far. For example, what was the name of the child born 1887?

Other possible children-
Patrick Duffy born 13 Aug.1881   (mother- Quigg)
Mary Duffy born 27 Oct.1883 (mother- Quigg)
John Duffy born 3 Oct.1887 (mother- Quigg)

Are you sure your Duffy's stayed in Ireland after 1900?

PRONI, Belfast has a large collection of school registers but they are not online or indexed.

Wow! That could be the siblings. my grandfather was john Duffy born in Londonderry on 10/4/1887. I only know of his older brother James that was born on 4/24/1879.
Mother was Mary quigg. When john was born, they lived on 12 Rock Road.

I know James was living in Glasgow in 1901 with his wife Esther and new baby boy john. He was 22. I don't know where to look for 13 year old john.

Where did you find the possible other siblings?

Duffy from derry not on 01 census
« Reply #6 on: Thursday 13 November 14 22:14 GMT (UK) »
Please some one help. I know the duffy family was in derry from 1875 to 1887. I found baptism records for all at st Eugene's cathedral. James duffy and Mary quigg had at least 4 children. James, Patrick, Mary and john. I found James living in scotland married with a new baby in 1901. Any ideas as to how to find the others?

Hi

There are a lot of James Duffy's b Ireland on the Scottish 1901 so can you give us a bit more detail (ie) his birthyear and name of "wife" and new baby and which county he was living in

Why do you think this is your James Duffy if none of his other children are living with him?

EDIT - reading your other post - this apparently refers to a 22yr old James Duffy  - not the father James which is how your post was interpreted

Can you also give the individual birthyears of each of the children you have named ?

What other info do you have that pinpointed that 1901 entry as the correct James?  Birthplace is just shown as Ireland.

Did you download a copy of James & Esther's marriage cert to confirm his parents names?
