Military Hospitals London 1920's
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 05:56 GMT (UK) »
I have received information that my Grandfather spent 3 months in hospital in 1926 and, at the time, he was still a member of the armed services (having also served during the war).  His records no longer exist so I am looking for clues as to where he may have been hospitalised and if records would be available.  From anecdotal evidence it seems my grandfather (who was gassed during the war) suffered from ongoing health problems until he died at age 45 so it seems possible that he may have been in a military hospital.  He lived in Walthamstow all his life and at the time of his hospitalisation he was working for the Royal Household at Buckingham Palace and was with the 2nd Training Brigade, Royal Artillery.  Any hints would be welcome. Barbara

Hi

If it is the British Military and if your grandfather was still serving in 1926 then his Service Records are most likely still held by the Ministry of Defence. The link below has information re applying for his Service Records.

Thanks Andy, I will give that a try.  I thought they had been destroyed during the second world war.  Yes, sorry, it is British military. B

The records of soldiers who served in WW1 & were demobbed before 1922 were held at the War Office.
After re-organisation in 1922 records of serving soldiers were transferred to the MOD so those still survive.
