Who & Where?
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 08:05 GMT (UK) »
???  Who & Where?
I have a letter which was written by a distant ancestor (posted 4th Feb 1941) which I am trying my very best to decipher with great difficulty.
From the attachments, I wondered if anyone might be able to help me please should their deciphering skills be better than mine.
So far, I have read the address as M?? Place, St Peters Street, Radford with the date in the right corner as 3 Feb.
How did she really sign the letter?  I read it as Auntie Pem.
Also, what was the surname of her nephew John?

This relative is very distant to me & I don't know anything about her but would like to if possible. It would be good to learn of the true facts so if anyone can help me please I would be most grateful.

Thank you.

There is/was a Croft Place in St Peter's Street. Sometimes referred to as Croft's Place. http://www.archivecdbooks.org/resources/county/ntt/nottingham/places/ntts1902.pdf

Before I read Shaun's suggestion, I thought the address was 7 Crofts Place

John Peilmingten. Possibly should be Pellmington?

That's great, thank you so much. I always seem to have great difficulty when deciphering old writing as my brain allows me to read it straight off in a certain way but then I can't seem to alter that in my head to see it differently!
I can see now that what I read as the letter M was really the number 7 making it 7 Croft Place & there was such a place as Croft Place, St Peters St in Radford so it all fits together well.
Thanks again, your help is very much appreciated.
