Polish/Jewish relatives Helen R Rosak/Fletcher
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 23:08 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find Polish/Jewish relatives who are related to my great grandmother Helen R Rosak/Fletcher born December 13, 1911 Poland and died October 30, 1997 at the age of 85 in Pennsylvania, USA.

I recently found out that I am Jewish and would like to find/ get to know some relatives in Poland.

Do you know when she arrived in America, and have you got any further information about her?

Thank-you

A tree online has her arriving in USA in 1911 and born in 1912.
Also, married by the 1930 census.
This census has her married to Joseph Fletcher by the age of 16, living in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania.

Have you got information on her birth or marriage or immigration?

The tree also use the surname spelling as Rosyak, and have parents and siblings for her.

There is a possible census entry for her and her family in 1920 in Sewickley, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania.

Her Father is actually Russian, with Russian parents, but speaks Polish, as is his wife, and the 2 oldest children.

John is 30, Mary 31, Zige 10, Helen 8, (all arrived in 1911) Mellie 6, Clifford 3 and Martha 1.
He is a coalminer.

Is it the relatives left behind in Russia that you want to know about?

I would like to find any of her relatives. I knew she was married to Joseph Fletcher (my great grandfather), but not much more.

I never knew anything about her parents or siblings.

Yes, I would like to know about my relatives in Russia.

Where did you find the tree for her?

Thank you very much for all of your help.

I don't know anything about her immigration. I know is that she was married to Joseph Daniel Fletcher. I don't know the year they were married. I know by searching that her birthday was December 13, 1911, but I don't know in what country.

As you are in America, you could take out a (trial?) subscription to ancestry or other search site to access their information, so that you can see the family on the censuses etc.
Similarly look for her marriage (you know her name and his name) on various websites, both free and paying.

This might, or might not, be Zige:

John Rosyak appears to have died in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania on 11th June 1937.  Birth date 12 May 1889, born Poland.
His Father's name was Stanley, born Poland, and his Mother was Mary Andjemski, born Poland.  His wife was Mary.
The certificate number was 56344.

The difference in birth places from different records might be because of changing country borders, or depending on who was giving the information

I do have ancestry, but I could never find any relatives of my great grandmother probably because I mis spelled her (maiden) name wrong. I do remember going to that cemetery when I was a child and seeing some of those head stones. Yes, that is Zige. Thank you for the information you have provided. I will be able to do more research now.  :)
