family research
« on: Thursday 13 November 14 14:48 GMT (UK) »
i have tracked members of my family  Gorman / Holland  Grandon/ Horrigan back to 1871 census prior to this the only record i can trace is a wedding notice in 1855 in Cardiff.  family scuttle suggests that my irish descendents were from the Cork area  possibly Kinsale.

Can anyone suggest how i can trace back further.  How can i make it easier o access records in Dublin without chasing shadows

Hi and a warm welcome to Rootschat!

I wouldnt start worrying about Irish Records yet, until you are sure you are going to need them.

What does the 1871 census say? it would be helpful if you could give us all the details.

(Of course if that says everyone was born in Dublin, then yes, maybe you do need to think Irish!)
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Welcome from me too  :)

I noticed that there was a John Hill, 65, b. Ireland with them on the 1871.  He's described as Father in law. This could mean step father as well in those days. Have you tried to follow him up? Could Mary have been married before?

There are possible John Grandon (alts) bapt. Co Cork around the correct time  but can't be sure if any are him. If they used the trad naming convention, there isn't a Michael as father.

I think trying to get the marriage cert would be your best option.

I assume you've seen the 1891 for Mary, which does have her born Kinsale.  RG12/4393/94/27
