Grandfather with a group of WWI soldiers for a clean up please

Photo of my Grandfather (third from the right) with a group of soldiers. Its a nice clear photo but I'm hoping someone can remove the ink marks on either side of his head. The photo has also been folded so there is a crease line down his left side. Hoping that can also be repaired.

I have changed the overall colour to make it a bit sharper and more of the colour of war photo's but if you don't like this let me know and I can change it.

I don't understand why this is scanned at a resolution of 300dpi and yet it is pixelated...did you have to resize it to post Sami?

Hi Carol - yes I had to make it smaller so that it would be under the 500 Kb maximum. But that was done after the scan and I didn't think that would change the quality of it. Do you have any suggestions?
