Thomas William Clayton
« on: Saturday 15 November 14 22:42 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping that someone may know something about my great-great-grandparents, Thomas William Clayton and his wife, Ellen Baglin.  I have been searching for their deaths for some time using many different resources but no luck so far.  I am thinking that perhaps they did not die in the United Kingdom as I can't find them.

They last appear on the 1891 UK census, living in the Marylebone/St Pancras area of London.
Thomas Clayton   71 tailor born Knaresborough Yorkshire
Ellen Clayton    56  dressmaker born Bath Somerset  (born 1832 so 58)
Isabel Edith Clayton 19, domestic servant born 17 May 1871
William H Marchant, grandson, son of Isabel E Clayton aged 1, born c 1890
Elizabeth  Ann Parker 17 (nee Clayton) born 17 July 1873  wife of George
George Parker, 22, druggist/chemist warehouseman, born Marylebone, London 1868/1869
Francis C Gibson 13, grandson, born 1878 (Charles Frank Clayton born Chelsea 1878)
Living at 43/45 Charlotte Street, St Pancras, London

There was another Clayton couple by the name of Thomas Clayton and Ellen Clayton living in the same area at the time but this is not my family.  This Ellen Clayton was born in Hackney and her husband had died by 1891.

Can anyone help to find the death records of Thomas William Clayton and Ellen (Baglin) Clayton between 1891 and 1901?  I can't find either of them on the 1901 census.

Many thanks

Have you found any of the other people listed there in 1901?

There's an Ellen Clayton born abt 1832 death in Islington in 1910 but if that was her she should be somewhere in 1901.

The Ellen Baglin who died in Islington in 1910 was the one born in Hackney (not my family).  The Thomas Clayton died Islington may be mine but without the actual certificate, I can't confirm.  Other members of the family in the 1891 census:  The Parker emigrated to the US in 1892 and 1893/4, the grandchild Francis C Clayton went to live with his aunt in Lancashire, trained as a butcher, married, had a daughter and emigrated to the US (was living with the Elizabeth Ann Clayton Parker (divorce and living apart from her family) in 1900 US census), Isabel Edith married William Tompkins and he adopted her infant son William.  So, after 1891 census the family split up and moved elsewhere.

I don't think that Ellen Clayton would have gone to Gloucestershire and reverted to her maiden name but it is possible, I will check it out.  Many thanks for the help and advice.
