Harry Porter - Willingale Doe
« on: Monday 17 November 14 15:34 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace 3x great grandfather. He was married to Elizabeth. They had a son John, who was baptised in St Christopher's Church, Willingale Doe on 26 January1808.
I can find no record of Harry despite looking through the parish records for both Wiilingale Spain and Doe and other websites.  Can anybody help

Hi and a warm welcome to Rootschat.

Essex is fortunate, as the PRs are available to view online on the SEAX site - a subscription is needed.

Is that where you have looked? If not, then that is where you need to look (or in person at the Essex Record Office) !

Have you found any sibligs of John? They would indicate if he was the eldest child, or the youngest of a large brood, thus giving a better idea of when Harry and Elizabeth may have married.

If there is nothing more about the family in Willingdale Doe amd Spain then it will be a case of looking further afield, working your way through neighbouring parishes.

Have you tried searching under Henry? Being formally named Harry is a fairly recent thing. Generally it was only an informal name for Henry

Bit of an enigma that one.
FreeREG has Parents Mary?/Elizabeth, so actual image may be Harry.
No other Children found for them ib Willingale Doe or nearby even using Henry.

Also a Tree has John marrying Mary CAMP 24 Dec 1827, All Saints, Writtle

FreeREG has a Marriage that date for John Porter but to Mary MILLS, St Mary the Virgin, Great Bentley.

Sorry not much help.

Hi,
Thanks for the greeting. I have subscription to Seax. I have through them looked at the parish records for Willingale Doe and Spain but have only been able to trace the baptism of John as their only child.
I have also looked for the marriage and birth of Harry. Have found another of other Porters in both Willingales but cannot link them to either John or Harry

The marriage of John and Mary Camp is the correct one. Problem then arose that John and Mary moved to Ingatestone. At the same time there was living there another John and Mary Porter, whose children had similar names to my relatives. I eventually managed to sort who was who. they are not related
