Salvation Army, Elmswell.
« on: Monday 17 November 14 18:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am trying to research early Salvation Army groups in the Elmswell, Suffolk area. I have some info for Norton, (from their web site) which has survived and is thriving. Has anyone any info about early 'soldiers' from their families? I believe there was a group at Badwell Ash. Any info for groups about up to 10 miles away would be most helpful.
Burt, Cockrill, Craske, Debenham, Double, Grimwade, Grimwood, Hilder, Mayhew, Ray. All from  West Suffolk around the Bury St. Edmunds area.

May I add, Officers were appointed to Elmswell in 1886 and from the War Cry of 12th March 1887 it mentions a Captain and Mrs Hawes as being there.

I thought I may make one further appeal for help as I have had no response in over five years.

Did you ever contact the very active group at Elmswell? They are regulars at Suffolk Local History Council events.

The expressions on their faces are the ones that I can remember when they came into pubs in the 1970s selling War Cry, thankfully now they are far more friendly and do a very good job.
