He Joins the 12th (Service) Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, Service No. 18285 on the 18th February 1915 at the age of 35. 1st Week in September 1915 I presume he lands at Le Harve and marches to Loos (167 Miles). Sunday, 26th September 1915 – Battle of Loos – 63rd Brigade, 21st Division, I presume he gets injured and on Tuesday, 12th October 1915 – Disembarkation, Is that coming or going?, Service No. 18285, his rank was Lance Corporal.
Between 12th October 1915 and 9th September 1917 he is with the LDLC (London District Labour Centre), Service No. 376855, his rank was Private. However there are rumours that he was presumed dead for a long period of time, but later found in a hospital.
I really could do with some more information on the London District Labour Centre, his service records / history, and also I have a picture of him wearing a red uniform with the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal ribbon band on his chest with two chevrons which implies he was a Corporal? I thought a Lance Corporal was a single Chevron?, also at time of dismissal his rank was a Private in the Labour Corps. Also on the uniform on the white collar seems to be a Staffordshire Knot? Its all very confusing.
Any help will be much appreciated.
