Mooney and Blade Families
« on: Saturday 22 November 14 02:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I have been trying to find information on my gg grandfather, Patrick Mooney.   I  have very little information on him.  He was married to Nancy Hagerty in Ireland, possibly Waterford area.  Nancy passed away and Patrick, his daughter and son-in-law Bridget (born 1823) and John Blade and two sons Nicholas and Richard immigrated to the United States around 1841.  They originally settled in Massachusetts.  I am trying to find information on Patrick's family and John's family in Ireland.  I have not been able to find any information and any help would be really appreciated.   Thank you

Nicholas Mooney died in Worcester, June 12, 1848, being the first person buried in St. John's Cemetery."
(I would try and get Nicholas Mooney's American death certificate to make sure of his fathers name, seems to be some confusion about if it is Patrick or Richard Mooney married to Nancy Hagerty )

Thank you very much for this information, I really appreciate it.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to trace the Mooney/Blade families in Ireland?  I have tried many sites but have not been able to find any leads.

There are two main problems for tracing this particular family in Ireland. To find information for this date you'll need to know where they lived in Ireland (parish if not actual townland) to see if you can find church records but many church records for such an early period do not survive (and not all that do are online).

Have a look at these 2 topics but you are more likely to find information in U.S. records (Massachusetts ones are fantastic and many on Family Search site)-
