Cleator ~ Whitehaven, Cumbria
« on: Monday 24 November 14 18:37 GMT (UK) »
I am descendent of of William C. Cleator born 1810 in Whitehaven, Cumbria who died in Vinalhaven, Maine 1893, and perhaps of another William Cleator born 1827 and buried 1887 at WH & Preston Quarter Cemetery: grave #21, Ward 3. I would welcome any information about current Cleator family genealogy, including the relationship between William, and William C. Cleator.

greetings

There are alot of Cleators about in history
I've just put Cleator into "Family Search" and go back to 1707
that site is Free and that is where I would recogmend you start looking for past
As looking up living people it is against the polocy of the chat page.
If you require spacific look ups and can be more informative I'm sure we all would love to help
Regards
Westmorland

There was a William Cleator born late 1820s in Whitehaven and baptised Feb 1829, but his parents were John Cleator and Elizabeth. He had siblings Ruth, John and Catherine, and I think he went on to become a mariner. Any use?
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Thank you ThrelfallYorky.  I wonder how I might make the connection of  William C. Cleator born 1810 in Whitehaven, and William Cleator born 1827 * and buried 1887 at WH & Preston Quarter Cemetery: grave #21, Ward 3. * (baptized 1829: parents John and Elizabeth ??)

In addition, I wonder if Ronnie Pearson and his wife Lilly of Whitehaven are still living.  He was the contact person at WH & Preston Quarter Cemetery when I was last there in 2001.  Ron was very helpful, and both he and Lilly very welcoming of me.

Best regards, and thanks again,  jim
