You say "who are they?" - yet you know they are Webbs. What else do you know about them? Christian names? Dates? How do you know they are Webbs of Chesterton?

obviously my statement is a bit misleading.i dont know if they are webbs .they are i suspect

relatives  but do not know anything about them other than they were around approx 1850 -1920

from the dates of the photographers taking the photos.

the pictures, cabinet mounted were in my Grandmothers brother's house.thats all i know.

and sorry to the other person chesterton in cambridgeshire where most of the photographers lived.

thanks for your interest both.

The gentleman bears a passing likeness to my grandfather Samuel Ayres who was born in Lode Cambs in 1868. This is possible as his great grandmother was Susannah Webb who was b1771 in Lode. In total though they have not been thoroughly researched I have around 12 Webbs in my tree, at least 3 of whom could be the people in the photographs.
Ayres Brignell Cornwell Harvey Shipp  Stimpson Stubbings (all Cambs) Baumber Baxter Burton Ethards Proctor Stanton (all Lincs) Luffman (all counties)

If you haven't already done so, a good way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it under "Your Tools" at the bottom of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!

I may be wrong, but I didnt read Redrogers post as to say that the photo of the man may actually be Samuel Ayres, more that there was a slight resemblance, and, as Samuel Ayres had Webb ancestors, then maybe Samuel and tbe person in the picture may have had a common ancestor.

Remember too that the person whose attic these were found in would have had ancestors via female lines (his mother and paternal grandmother, in fact three out of the four of his grandparents) who would not have been Webbs, and the photos may be of one of them. Just a thought!

Is there anything at all on tbhe back of tbe photos to give you any clue?
