There may or maybe not be any link to to Peter Duncan and his wife Margaert Harris...You need to do the research really to make the links...and verify records along the way.

What research have you done? Have you confirmed Helen's father's lineage? Guess this is the 1901 census for Helen? Everyone born in Montrose, apart from mother Christina:

Alexander Harris 33 Lab At Flax Mill
Christina Harris 33 b. Aberlemno, Forfarshire
Helen Harris 4
Mary Harris 3
Elizabeth Harris 10 months
Address: 19 Reform St, Montrose

Closest I can see for Alexander Harris so far round that birth year is https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYTJ-HYK

The marriage ref on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for Alexander and wife Christina would help you confirm parents' details if you don't have them so far.

There is an online tree on a/try (you need a subscription or access via a library).

http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/24551350/person/1534052771

This includes details that Alexander Harris married a Christina Crawford Forrest in 1896 in Montrose. Christina's mother given as Helen Duncan...so likely the source of first born daughter Helen's name. This Helen's parents don't seem to have had a Peter Duncan (from what has been added), so not likely connected to Peter Duncan, registrar from the surname Duncan...

The tree mentioned above links Peter Duncan's wife, Margaret Harris, to having a illegitimate child Alexander as above: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYTJ-HYK

The marriage of Peter Duncan and Margaret Harris shows on Scotlands People in 1877 in Montrose. Maybe trying to find Margaret and son Alexander in 1871 would help firm up?

~ thinking this might be Alexander in 1871 at his grandparents, with mother Margaret (transcribed as Harrie on the index I am looking at):

James Harrie 61 Hand Loom Weaver b Poulton, Kincardineshire
Elizabeth Harrie 57 b. Marykirk, Kincardineshire
Margaret Harrie 22 b. Montrose
Alexander Harrie 20 b. Montrose
Edward Harrie 17 b. Montrose
Alexander Harrie 3 grandons b. Montrose
Address: Townhead, Montrose

James Harris and Elizabeth Moir are given as parents to Margaret in the a/try tree mentioned.

Another illegitimate child given for Margaret Harris is Edward b. 1871 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYTN-BZR... also seems to be registered in Dundee https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XY1X-C8Y  Sometimes happens when birth took place away from parent(s) normal residence and registrars passed on info to the locality of parent(s) residence.

Monica

PS: Someone has posted this info https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/S5MN-2SL  Maybe Edward died young?

You should be able to confirm a death for Edward b. to Margaret in 1871. I think it shows on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk in 1872.This looks like Alexander in 1881, with his grandfather James. By this time, Margaret Harris was married to Peter Duncan from what we have:

James Harris 70 general labourer b. Fordoun, Kincardineshire
Alexander Harris 12 grandson b. Montrose
Edward Harris 26 son, Flax Mill Worker
Williamina Harris 26
Christina Harris 6
Charles Harris 2 Months
William L Harris 2 Months
Address: 5 Kincardine Street, Montrose

Just started research. Need to visit library to find further exact details of Helen's family. New to research so much to learn. Thank you for putting me in right direction. Alexander  Harris is my great grandfather  and knew he was illegitimate son before Margaret's marriage to Peter Duncan . As a small girl I remember visiting Rosehill Cemetry and seeing his gravestone with a verse of his poetry on it. Also own Bairds of Angus which has details and his poetry.
