Sarah Burton 1830 Dunkirk Cottage School Great Ponton
« on: Wednesday 26 November 14 00:03 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to trace a Sarah Burton who attended Dunkirk Cottage School, Great Ponton in 1830. I think Great Pontonis  near Grantham in Lincolnshire.  I have a wool embroidered sampler with her name and the date and the fact that she stitched it at Dunkirk Cottage School. The sampler is obviously stitched by a young girl who I guestimate to be between 6 to 10 or 11 years old.

I can't find any history of Sarah, or even the school though I have found a Dunkirk Cottage in Great Ponton on a survey map.  If anyone can help with some history of Sarah or even the school it would help me to rack her further.

Sounds about right for her to get married in 1842 - if she was 10 in 1830 makes her 22.

Do you have any more info on her, her siblings or her family or husbands family occupation from the census.?  I have looked and looked for her in Great Ponton and haven't found anything - obviously you know where to look  :D

An online tree has James Ghest Hutchinson born May 1818 in Stonesby, Leicestershire and his
death Jan 1889 in Leicestershire. It gives his parents as William Hutchinson 1773 – 1828 and Susannah Richardson 1779-1856. In both 1851 and 1861 James was an Agricultural Labourer.

In 1841 James appears to be boarding with an Elizabeth Goodson in Stoneby, he is an Ag Lab.

Looking at the marriage from Freereg the witness is a Joseph Hutchinson who is probably his brother. He also has a son called William who was born in Stoneby in 1852.

From FamilySearch:

James Gust Huchinson
Christening Date:   13 Sep 1818
