finding descendants of George & Caroline Stubbings
« on: Wednesday 26 November 14 23:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone! Can you help this poor Aussie out with some info please. Looking for info and/or photos of one of the descendents of English couple George and Caroline Stubbings, namely, William James Stubbings (their son) [and 2nd wife Elizabeth Ann Ramos-Morgan]. They are believed to have lived in Australia, and Elizabeth is thought to be Aboriginal. Cheers, Peter

Thanks for your prompt reply Carole. My sister is the one who's asking, she tells me that William was born in Australia, and she has dates as well as ship's log of parents carried as migrants. She will give me dates (but alas only by snail mail). It leaves me wondering though, because she actually wants photos of them pre 1940, and I wonder how she'll get pics except to contact living relatives, or from profession's yearbooks or newspapers. A daunting task. Do you know by chance a site like this in Australia that allows for forum searches for free? Cheers, Peter

Hi, Is this your William?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTCN-CYM

This could be their immigration:

Possible Sister on same ship?
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FL24-KYG

If these are them then these are the details:

They went to Australia on the ship Ann Gales. It seems George was an Engineer, his father was a horsedealer also called George and Mother was named Lydia Warwick. George was born in St George in the East end.
Caroline was a house servant whose parents were John Davidson a cabinet maker and mother Margaret Priest. They arrived on 12th July 1840.
Previously - Badgirl
Thomas-Llangynwyd
Morgan-Garw / Sirhowy
Richards - Bettws
Philips - Rhondda
Pinn - London

If you haven't already done so, a good way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it under "Your Tools" at the bottom of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!
