HMS Jervis Bay
« on: Saturday 29 November 14 10:23 GMT (UK) »
Trying to trace new information regarding HMS Jervis Bay. I am totally aware of the brilliant web site for the HMS Jervis Bay Association.

My uncle Sidney george OWEN died on 5 Nov 1940 when the ship was sunk.

A BBC radio play was produced and I am trying to find a script(copy) or recording of it - can anyone help?? Or know a man who has old BBC archive tapes!!??

Any help very appreciated

Thanks

Are you perhaps thinking of the radio adaption of Alistair MacLeans's novel HMS Ulysses?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Ulysses_%28novel%29

Quoting from that site:

HMS Ulysses has never been filmed but it was adapted by Nick McCarty for a BBC Radio 4 play of the same name which was first aired on 14 June 1997 in the Classic Play series. It starred Sir Derek Jacobi as Captain Vallery and Sir Donald Sinden as Admiral Starr.

Thank you - yes I know about the book and have read it - but the radio play was in 1950 or 1960 just from my age and the script I saw. I also have a copy of ALISTAIR MACLEAN's The Lonely Sea a Collected Short Stories one of which is about the Jervis Bay. So thanks for jogging my memory ! I suppose the play could have been called 'The Lonely Sea'!!

I shall hunt for that.
