John Moss, Born Birch Essex 1804

Hi, i'm a first time poster (anywhere) so please be gentle with me.
This gentleman is my 4th great grandfather and is driving me crazy. He was born in Birch Essex 1804 and married Elizabeth Pits (i think) in Writtle Essex 1830. I think he may have had more than one wife, maybe Mary Drain or Train. Immigrated to Australia in April 1841. I think his father was Henry Moss 1774-1848. His son Thomas was my 3rd great grandfather. I'm trying to find who his wives and children were. Any information would be greatly appreciate. Thanks.

Can you tell us when and where Thomas (your 3rd ggrandfatehr) was born? If we start with him, and work back one step at a time, hopefully we will keep on the right track.

By the way, If you have ancestors in Essex, then you will be pleased to know that Essex parish registers are online and can be searched online. The site is SEAX (a google will find the full address). A subscription is needed, but I think you only need pay for a few days worth if you want.

There's a marriage in the Boyd's Index for a John Moss to Elz Pitts in 1829 in Writtle, Essex.

This fits the 1851 Census.

So something wrong here.

Do you have the Australian M/C and Death Cert of your Thomas?

I think I've transcribed this correctly, I think Legsden might be Lexden and I don't know why R MOSS is written differently to the other children.



If I'm understanding the above info then John would have been born 29th December 1803 so here is a possible baptism for John, about 3.5 miles from Birch, Essex.

That would mean all the above children were not John and Mary's.
