Good morning Pauline and Janice

Thanks for the replies, it's quite interesting how I came onto this link (isn't it always so).  I was speaking to my father on skype yesterday and telling him of my travel plans for next year which included a visit to Scharf with my brother.  He was telling me some stories about  his time there which I hadn't heard before (he is very sharp for a 94 year old).  I asked to write these down stories as they are quite interesting. When I was going through the photos last night I saw the "Rest Centre" one and googled that and arrived here.   I have googled Scharfolfdendorf with limited success although there is a youtube link you might enjoy

My father Douglas was there from July 48 until December 49 and met my mother whilst an in patient at RAF (H) Rinteln.  He is the man in the photo.  When he left they presented him with a model of the base which he has kept to this day and he speaks fondly of the staff there.  The unit catered for 40 officers and 300 other ranks.  Staff was 12 airmen, 5 WAAF (later WRAF) and 25 Germans.  They provided gliding training, horse riding, tennis, wild boar shooting and in the winter skiing and tobogganing.  They also had a swimming pool.

Thank you so much for posting the photos. My father was there from 1955-1958 I think and was one of the other ranks. I also googled Scharfoldendorf and found the video and some photos. We have thought of visiting a number of times but never managed so far.

Sorry I just saw this. Not sure why I never received a notification.

These are fabulous photos. I can't wait to show my cousins. I know they will be thrilled.

Thank you ever so much.
