Susan Balding Hessett

I have hit a total brick wall as regards Susan Balding who married Jacob Presland in Hessett 22 Mar 1769 aet 25. She is given as of the parish  as was Jacob. She died in Hessett 26 Dec 1815 and Jacob died 10 March 1816. On her death she is given as aet 83..something of a discrepancy . That said, I have been unable to find any evidence for her birth anywhere.

I am wondering if anybody has ideas about where I can go from here. I notice that there was a burial in Hessett in 1780 of Ann widow of Thomas but no other Balding refs. There does seem to be a family in Rougham but no mention of Susan.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received. Thank you.

Hi I have found 2 children - do you have them? thought names might help us find susan/ susannas parents:

Jacob Prosland  26/10/1775 Hessett
Robert Prosland  7/12/1777 Hessett

Just a thought but at 25 it's possible she had been married before so Balding wasn't her birth name.

Does the marriage specify spinster or is that info not given?

I did have the two births you mentioned--Robert (from whom I am descended) and Jacob but thank you. There were 3 other children William born 1773, George 1771 and Robert 1770 (who died in 1771.
The marriage from the Sudbury Marriage Licences has the following:
Jacob Presland of Hessett 22 yr s.m. and Susannah Balding of same 25 yrs s.w. at same 22 March 1769 so it seems she was not previously married.

Just because the Marriage Record has her of Hessett at time of Marriage it does not mean she was born there.
I would look over the Border in Norfolk as there seem to be lots of Balding/Bolding born there.

Impossible to prove at this stage but as you noted a ANN Bolding Burial in Hessett I thought it could be possible Parents.

Thank you for all that Trish. As you say impossible to prove but certainly worth thinking about. I'll try some name variants in my hunt as I must admit I've only used Balding in my searches. I'll look and see if I can find the sibling Margaret in the Hessett area and indeed any of the other children.
